Garages may feel a little emptier next week. That's because many people in the area with a 'need for speed' will be traveling to a popular side-by-side, half-mile racing event coming to the Ark-La-Tex region. The "Texas 1/2 Mile Shootout" offers approximately 300 drivers - 150 cars each day -  the chance to participate in high speed fun in Sulphur Springs, Texas on November 14 and 15.

While all the slots for drivers have been filled, being a spectator at the Sulphur Springs, Texas race may be the most fun you can have in Texas before Christmas according to Texarkana resident and racing aficionado Zach Sefton. "I am impressed," Sefton said. "With this being the Texas half-mile, it'll be big. This will definitely will be interesting and fun."

The event is being presented by a company with one of the most hashtag-friendly names in the racing business: "wannaGOFAST." The fast-paced race will feature a special 1/2 mile course at the Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport and, surprisingly, the race will have no speed restrictions. Similar events have been successfully put on by the racing company across the United States.

Blake Hutchison, wannaGOFAST
The president of wannaGOFAST said he is thrilled to bring high speed auto racing to Sulphur Springs and the Ark-La-Tex region. "It is essentially the closest thing to going to a drag race," Hutchison said. "This event is exciting but still among the safest racing events around," he added

Finding himself weary of restricted race speeds and limited track distances, Hutchison said he founded and organized the first GOFAST event in July, 2011. Taking a modernized, yet retro-based approach to classic American racing, he said wannaGOFAST events fill a niche in the racing market by providing a safe, controlled environment for ultra-high-speed auto racing.

Since standard racetracks only have 1/4 or 1/8 mile strips, Hutchison said wannaGOFAST is able to harness the excitement of high speed racing in a 1/2 mile setting without speed restrictions. "This is why wannaGOFAST is quickly becoming recognized as a standard for measuring how fast cars will go," he said.

The wannaGOFAST president is also pleased at the community response to the Texas 1/2 Mile Shootout in Sulphur Springs. "We have over 300 cars registered for the 2 day event, and the Saturday driver registration sold out in 3 hours." he said.

Hutchison said the event in Sulphur Springs will feature a wide array of different cars and a good combination of local people as well as cars from outside the Ark-La-Tex. Racing events from wannaGOFAST happen several times a year across the US. In 2014, the company organized the Texas 1/2 Mile Shootout at the Horseshoe Bay Resort Airport in Horseshoe Bay, Texas near Austin.

Tickets may be purchased at the front gate each morning of the 2-day event. End of race awards will be given based on trap speeds for participating vehicles in multiple categories such as Overall Exotic/Import, AWD, Manual Transmission and Heavyweight. For ticket, pricing, location, hotel and further information, visit the Sulphur Springs section of the wannaGOFAST website by clicking here.

Fans may bring their own seating that will be located in a safe, yet viewable distance from the action, and spectators may bring their own bottled water for drinking during the event. Three food trucks will be on hand for meal purchases and snacks, and a chocolate themed food truck will have an assortment of tasty confections available.

Event organizers produced an official promo video for the 2015 Texas 1/2 Mile Shootout event, and the clip was partially filmed in Sulphur Springs.
